Folic Acid

There are certain foods that contain folic acid and it is considered to be an essential nutrient for our health. Today I was reading an article concerning folic acid (folate). It is a very vital B vitamin in your diet. It has been confirmed that getting the right amount of folate in your diet could very well protect you from newborn birth defects, colon cancer, heart disease, anemia and liver disease, because it is involved in the repair and function of the DNA and a deficiency could lead to certain types of health problems.

Make sure you get foods that contain folic acid and some of these foods includes orange juice, pineapple juice, whole grains, enriched bread and cereals. As a dietary supplement it is recommended that 400 mcg of folic acid should be taken.
